
Kumarakom the costal village is unique because of a lot of factors. It is irrigated by the canals of Meenachil River. And the whole place is stretches and stretches of
paddy fields. But it is different from any other paddy fields in Kerala or even in Kottayam because of its close proximity to Vembanad Kaayal ( Lake ). Kumarakom is blessed with a very pleasant climate throughout the year. There is always a "Kaayal Kaattu" _ just like sea breeze & Land breeze of costal belt _ from the kaayal to the land from noon time to evening. From late evening to the morning there is always the land breeze which feather touches the land and move towards the kaayal.
When you are in the comfort of the stay in our homestay you could enjoy the beauty and enchantment of Kumarakom at its fullest. From the room and adjacent Varandha you could see the supply of water all around, and you would be greeted by the cool water -lily scented breeze. Also you could see the lush green stretches of paddy fields.

In the morning you will be awakened by the chirping of birds. From window / Varandha / Terrace you could watch a lot of tropical birds and also the water birds dipping in water & sun bathing.
The sunshine will streak across the room in the morning and it may be through a foggy atmosphere cool and pleasant be with sun'srays spluttering through as if in a hill station and you can see the dews kissing the paddy leaves. Or it may be radiant & flamboyant like the glittering from a diamond string. The sun'srays through the threads of rain will give you the pleasure & happiness of rainbow. And it is gonna be memorable if you would like to go for Thekkady. You could walk through village roads, paddy fields, see the farmers working in the fields, the fisherman luck with their nets- with country boats, got the scent of water flowers, the smell of fresh soil. Water pumping out from the fields to the canal with the help of motor & its box. See herds of goats, ducklings, water birds; Manual workers digging in the depth of canals / kaayal to collect the shell. The lime factories where the shell is burned & crushed for preparing lime powder. Shell meat also used to eat ( Kakka - irachy )
The Tody tappers climbing down the tall coconut trees with their fully laden casket of fresh, fermented sweet tody. Make sure that a return early enough to have a yummy lipsmacking lunch.
